The end... the longest running ring closes its doors. Only few people remember these days, but Abandonweb preceded TUOL by almost a year. It has stayed up continuously since then, never closed down 'temporarily'. It was also my first involvement in ring work, about half a year before I started updating TUOL. In some stages, Abandonweb might have been a little low-profile, living in the shadow of its big brother. To many people, the idea of a webring (as opposed to a pure site listing) got out of style. Both is very sad in retrospect, but the loyal members knew about the benefits and appreciated them. And now, there is no single webring left in this 'scene'. Today, one of the oldest pieces of Abandonware history closes its doors. It was fun while it lasted, but keeping up rings for the sake of having rings simply can't be everything. I wish all former 'competitors' whose rings are still online the best of luck for the future. Keep it up if you can still get yourself to do it. Don't let the "d/l kidz"take everything over. As for me, I've stood in that line of fire for too long. My future dedication will be to the games themselves again. In the middle of all the ego clashes, never forget that this is what it all began with, and if it has to end, this is what should be "Abandonware's final breath". Mr Creosote
